Bungie

(Rest in Pieces)

I was a Bungie fan for 13 years. I did quite a few things for the community - I even built six damned themes for 7th Column fanclubs! Bungie was a great company, but once it became a cruelly owned subsidiary of Micro$oft, it began to loose the special something that kept me interested. I gave up completely on them the day they required me to sign in on BungieNet using &@$#% Micro$oft Passport. I'm sorry, without Seropian, Soell, Bernal, Zartman, and Kirkpatrick - Bungie didn't seem like Bungie anymore. Even the Disembodied Soul is nowhere to be found.

Bungie also had a great fanbase with supporting web sites that ranged from great to worrisomely intense.

A number of former Bungie employees have joined Alex Seropian's new games company, Wideload.

General

I was once so filled with Bungie love that I designed six page templates for 7th Column fanclubs. With the demise of the 7th Column my hard work was consigned to obsolencence. However, if you want to grab the graphics I used, you can find them here.

My last gasp of appreciation for all things Bungie was the creation of the Penultimate Bungie Giga-Quiz. For you low scorers out there (i.e. everybody but me), I have created a Bungie Trivia Quiz Study Sheet. By the way, my score:

TPBGQcode= Q343GOMPMMPOHEPL50.50OTSSA343

Would you expect anything else?

If you miss chatting with the Disembodied Soul, try the Disembodied Soul Simulator.

People

Brian Morden
He was one of the nicest HBO contributors and Bungie fen around. When he lost his battle against cancer we all felt the loss deeply. I [still] try to look on the bright side of things.
Nathan Bitner's business cardNathan Bitner
Long gone, but never forgotten, Nathan Elery Bitner has done a number of important things that have shaped our world. As a young child he created the Fearless Photog character for the Masters of the Universe cartoon series, only to be dicked over by Mattel when they failed to honor the terms of their own contest. After vacationing for two decades, he joined Bungie, eventually authoring the Cortana Letters. He left Bungie to start his own game company, Island Four. He awarded me a Ral Partha Soulblighter miniature for guessing the meaning of the name of his company. Unfortunately, I4 didn't work out so well, so he became a medic in the Army of the United States of America. He was almost killed by an al-Qaeda operative who was angry about the Marathon level "Colony Ship for Sale, Cheap." He returned to the States where he announced his presence to a hoard of groupies, and then promptly disappeared into the shadows again, only stopping briefly to send me an email which was subsequently lost in a hard drive crash.

Halo

One hell of a game. Here are some Halo related tidbits I've done or enabled.

Halo.Bungie.Org
HBO is the mother lode of all things Halo. Louis Wu runs it with an iron fist which smells strongly of goat. Regulars to the HBO fourms are always read to give advice on Halo and the proper usage of HBO. You can find information on a wide range of topics, from what Bungie finds to be more important than weekly updates to influences of Jefferson Airplane on Halo to the secrets revealed about Bungie's Breach project. If you post on the HBO forums. Tell 'em I said hi.
Wathog Madness
All in all, I was very impressed with the work Bungie did on the vehicles in Halo. Here is a page of humorous Warthog inspiration.
Christmas Tidings
In 2002 I made a Halo Themed Holiday Card and a desktop for the fans and friends at HBO.
The Definitive Halo Babies Episode Guide
Everything you ever wanted to know about Bungie's animated series can be found here. I'm still waiting for Fox to renew the series.
Female Artificial Personality Constructs Gone Wild
What happens when Halo and late night commercial soft porn meet? Large, medium, and small sizes are available.
Random Halo Game Generator
For those who get tired of having to think about what options to use in their Halo games, I present the Random Halo Game Generator.
RingWor
My attempt to create a strategic level game built on top of Halo. If you're really simple-minded, you may want to try this instead.
Halo Measurements
Some illustrations to help people understand how much of the galaxy a halo can sterilize, how big a halo is, and the progression of levels in the game.
Vintage Halo Movie
This is probably the oldest Halo movie in existence. Choose your poison: QuickTIme or Google Video.
Maw 700
I was pretty proud of the work I did for the Maw 700 contest; especially the Maw 700 logo. Also, here is a Forerunner-looking blank certificate suitable for printing.
Historical Trivia
Look what happened to Micro$oft's stock price when Halo 2 was announced.
Bad Advertising
Halo 2 - It's a knockout!
Bad Guys
While I do not have extensive info on the enemies you encounter in Halo, I have a few tidbits of interest. For example, did you know that chances are high that after a grunt finally meets an attractive mate, he would probably die of shock? Have you seen the original concept for the Brute in Halo 2? What happens if Halo 3 has Flood Rangers in it and there is only one left?

Myth

First ever 3D realtime strategy game. Myth: The Fallen Lords was a great multiplayer game. The sequel, Myth II: Soulblighter, was even better. The Myth franchise was sold to Mumbo Jumbo, who produced the prequel Myth III: The Wolf Age. It sucked. Bad. Bungie eventually gave up on running Myth servers, but were decent enough to release the Myth server source code. Now there are fan run servers that have a respectable population of active Myth gamers.

The Tharsis Times
My collection of Myth related humor and stuff was offline for a while, but I finally found someone to give it to: The aptly named Myth Graveyard. However, I did keep a backup copy here, too.
Myth Desktops
A collection of desktops based on Myth units.
World War II:Titans
Santa's Head of Clan Plaid created World War II:Titans, a Myth module that lets you play WWII battles. On a lark I created this poster for it.
Black Company
Myth was inspired by the Black Company series by Glen Cook. In the series, the characters often play Tonk.

Marathon

The best storyline in a FPS, ever.

Hamish Sinclair
Why do we love Hamish so?
Marathon Animations
Back in the day, when animated GIFs were interesting, people were always asking how it was done.
Where Giants Have Fallen, You Can Conquer
A multimedia experience that Hamish and I collaborated on. If his site ever goes down, you can check out my local mirror here.
The Javengers
Who needs a corporate softball team when you can have a corporate mercenary team instead?
Seven Errors in the Scrapbook Competition
Culled from the Marathon's Story site so you can add it to your Marathon Scrapbook.
S'pht Graphology
Like many before and after me, I tried to puzzle out a workable S'pht written language.
Bob Slaver
When reality dating shows meet the Pfhor caste system.
An Interesting Tid-Bit
You will never feel the same about chips, oh delicious chips again.
Miscellaneous
Have a very merry Blaapmas you evil Chockisens.
